| Synopsis/critique | A Christmas special in which the preponderance of morning-TV magazine shows and other non-peak time fare came under the satirical gaze of Wood and her regular posse. As with all good teams, the understanding and interplay between the numbers was natural, incisive and seemed effortless. Granted, these are easy targets for lampooning, but few people are as adept as Wood at observing and sending up all the dimensions, her resulting script cutting to the quick.
Note. Victoria Wood's next major TV work was the TV film Pat and Margaret, broadcast under the Screen One banner by BBC1 on 11 September 1994. It was a bittersweet tale of two sisters—one dowdy, the other an American soap star—who are reunited after many years on a TV show. Julie Walters and Wood portrayed the sisters, with Celia Imrie and Duncan Preston also among the cast. |
