NOTES: The "Order of Malta Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem The Hospitallers of the Orthodox Tradition of the Russian Grand Priory" was a proposed organisation which failed to become a reality. Prince Serge Troubetzkoy was the Lieutenant Grand Master under King Peter, and after the King's death in 1970, led his own faction of the ex-King Peter Order from 1971 onward. In 1974, he had negotiated to form an alliance with the Most Sacred Order of Orthodox Hospitallers under the title of "Hospitallers of the Orthodox Tradition of the Russian Grand Priory of the Sovereign Order of Saint John, of Jerusalem". It appears that Troubetzkoy was on a quest to create a revived "Russian Grand Priory", and had accepted the Most Sacred Order of Orthodox Hospitallers as a genuine part of that tradition. The Alliance failed by March 1975, and the above document appears to represent his attempt at re-organising this quest. It is a set of proposals, and this is confirmed by the phrase "Additional Propositions" for the list on the bottom section. There may be two reasons why this quest failed; first the Russian Grand Priory of Malta under Professor Gaston Tonna-Barthet favoured the identity of the King Peter Order, as they held the original Constitution signed by King Peter; second, that by 1977, Count Nicholas Bobrinskoy had incorporated his own "revived" Russian Grand Priory, and had been working on its creation for some time.
Created 14th November 2005 Order of St John of Jerusalem, Knights Hospitaller. |
